Access control: An Appropriate Option for Your Security Needs

Blog

One of the most common concerns among business owners and managers, is how to increase security within their premises. Multiple doors in a facility, heavy human traffic and presence of sensitive documents all contribute to increased security concerns. If security within your business premises is a grave concern, you should consider installing access control systems and burglar alarms. These systems also come with advanced security alarms.

What are access control systems?

Access control can simply be described as an electronic way of restricting the admission of unwanted personnel into a building or a designated area. This may include restriction from certain areas within a building, or even access to gates outside the building.  For instance, if you have a store room for confidential information, you can install an access control system to limit access to the room to a few chosen individuals.

What are the advantages of these systems?

Well, one of the most noticeable advantages of access control systems is offering security. However, these systems have other benefits that are often overlooked, such as:

  • Reduced costs

Given the initial high costs of purchasing, installing and implementing access control systems, many people may consider it a high cost investment. However, these systems may help a business save a lot of money in the long run. For instance, it might be very expensive for large commercial buildings to employ guards at every point of entry. From this view point, installing these systems can be more affordable than hiring a lot of guards.

There are also times when business managers are required to replace lost keys, or even entire locks as a result of dishonest employees. This can be quite expensive, especially if such occurrences are common. In such instances, access control systems can be cheaper, because all you have to do is delete a user's information or delete the user's smart card from the system. Deleting a user's information is easy and you can do it on your own or enlist the services of your locksmith.

  • Keep track of entries and exits

There are certain businesses that need to keep records of who is coming and going out of the premises. Access control can offer a record of this in an easily interpreted and efficient manner. Also, in areas where there is high human traffic such as malls, these systems help to keep away strangers from 'employee only' zones.

Access control systems can be the most appropriate option for your security needs. As they are relatively simple to maintain and monitor, and when properly installed they are difficult to tamper with.

Using mobile security technology

Mobile technology has made such a difference to our lives. It can be a valuable tool to help your business stay secure as well. This can be as simple as having a feed from your security cameras that goes directly to your phone or tablet, or as complex as having an application that measures the distance between your staff and their computer and automatically alerts them if someone is trying to log onto their computer while they are away from their desk. Using mobile technology to your advantage can be a great way to enhance your security at an affordable cost.
